About Us

Jobs in retail continues to be one of the fastest growing areas in the job market and may people who want to work in retail aspire to get involved in a career in retail marketing.

What is retail marketing?

Retail Marketing is sometimes referred to as merchandising and it is focused on how to increase and promote the items that you sell to your customers.  If you are thinking about a career in retail marketing there are three things you can do right now to help you get your start.

Get a degree- Although a degree is not absolutely required as it is in some cases, having a degree will certainly help your chances of getting in and advancing in retail marketing.  The best degree choices are Marketing, Business, Public Relations or Communication.

Gain Experience- If you are in college now or about to enter college, you may want to get a job in a retail store.  Most retail marketers and retail managers got their start with hand on experience in a retail setting.  A part time job in a retail store will give you valuable experience as well as putting a few bucks in your pocket.

Internships – Another great way to gain experience and position your self for a career in retail marketing is to obtain an internship.  You can apply many time through your college career placement office and although the pay won’t be great, the experience will be invaluable.

Groups – It is also important to get involved in groups and start networking with people who are already working in retail.  Many colleges will have marketing related groups and there are also associations that will let you join as a student.  Having this experience on your resume will help you stand out from the crowd and help you get a leg up on the competition when you graduate.
